About the Labor/Management Health Care Coalition of the Upper Midwest The Labor Management Health Care Coalition, Upper Midwest is a non-profit 503c(6) organization with over 38 Members, mostly Taft Hartley Health & Welfare Funds. These funds are usually self-insured and managed by a joint Labor/Management Trusteeship that has a fiduciary responsibility and incentives to make the best Value decisions in purchasing health care services for their members. The Coalition began in 2001 with a small steering group that consisted of representatives from the IUOE Local 49, UFCW 789, a TPA (Wilson McShane), an attorney (Bill Ecklund), and the then President/CEO of Greater Detroit Area Health Council (Sean Kenney). The International Foundation of Employee Benefit Plans (IFEBP) was a great resource and provided support for a one-day conference in Minneapolis to launch the Coalition. How we are organized and governed The Labor Management Health Care Coalition, Upper Midwest is governed by both Labor and Management representatives of the Coalition's membership. In addition, the Coalition's Executive Committee includes the Coalition Executive Director, Legal Counsel, and the FMCS Representative.
