Our Upper Midwest Affiliates

While based in Minnesota and with a primary thrust there, the LMC is assisting and supporting Coalition growth in other nearby states. This includes the Iowa Health Buyers Alliance and the newly formed Labor Management Health Care Coalition of Wisconsin. The members of these two Coalitions are also dues paying members of the LMC. The LMC provides its Value Purchasing options and other services for these organizations.

Other Coalition Collaboration:

The LMC was instrumental in fostering collaboration among other purchasing coalitions in Minnesota some two plus years ago. The LMC and Buyers Health Care Action Group (BHCAG) were particularly supportive of the formation of what was called the Broad Alliance of Minnesota Purchasers, that included the Employers Association, Minnesota Chamber, Minnesota Business Partnership, Advocates for Market Place on Mainstreet (AMOM), Minnesota Association of Professional Employees (MAPE) and others. Initially, representatives of the State (as employer and for Medical Assistance) were informal participants.

In November, 2004 Governor Tim Pawlenty, noting the huge pressure for the state on rising health care costs, announced the state would be a formal participant and renamed the group "Smart Buy Alliance". As noted by the CommonWealth Foundation report in the preceding link, this group represents potentially 70% of purchasers in the marketplace.
